“You really think you can take them all on and win?” BritBox has revealed an official US trailer for a true crime series from the UK called A Cruel Love, from writer Kelly Jones. The original full title is A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, and it’s adapted directly from Carol Ann Lee’s non-fiction book “A Fine Day for Hanging: The Real Ruth Ellis Story” about a woman who was hanged in 1955 after a murder charge. The series follows the story of Ruth Ellis: her lifestyle as a young nightclub manageress, her violent relationship with the man she then killed in cold blood, her arrest, trial, and subsequent legal battle to get her release before she was hanged. She was the last woman to ever be executed in Britain – this is her story. “Against the backdrop of the glamorous 1950s club scene, this is the real Ruth Ellis story: a tragic true tale of murder, class, love and betrayal.” Lucy Boynton stars as Ruth Ellis, with Toby Jones, Laurie Davidson, Mark Stanley, Toby Stephens, Amanda Drew, and Bessie Carter.
