“What if I don’t want to be a smart girl?” Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for an acclaimed short film titled Anuja, made by filmmaker Adam B. Graves. This 22-min short premiered at a number of festivals last year and ended up earning an Oscar nomination – it made the cut as one of the five nominated shorts in the Best Live-Action Short category this year at the 97th Academy Awards. Anuja follows a gifted nine-year-old orphan and her 17-year-old sister, Palak, as they work in a back-alley garment factory. When a teacher offers Anuja a chance to attend an elite boarding school and leave her old life, the sisters must navigate challenges that test their resilience and bond, culminating in a decision faced by countless young girls worldwide. A story of resilience, sisterhood, and hope. This stars Sajda Pathan as Anuja, Ananya Shanbhag as Palak, Nagesh Bhosle as Mr. Verma, and Gulshan Walia as Mr. Mishra. Not the best trailer, but I’m sure this is a good short anyway. At first glance I thought it was a documentary but it’s a proper short made with actors. // Continue Reading ›
